The Juvederm Family of fillers

Juvederm is a collection of fillers used to treat volume loss and enhance facial features across the face.  While many people refer to their filler as “Juvederm”, the term Juvederm refers to a family of different fillers (under the Juvederm Umbrella) that were all developed with a precise formulation to treat different aspects of the face.  The fillers under the Juvederm Umbrella are as follows:

• Juvederm Voluma XC
• Juvederm Vollure XC
• Juvederm Vobella XC
• Juvederm Ultra XC
• Juvederm Ultra Plus XC

Think of the collection of Juvederm products as different paintbrushes designed to give the artist (a.k.a Board Certified Dermatologists at Village Dermatology) the precise effect needed for maximum results.  Each product was specifically designed to do something unique in each area of the face and that is why we love these products and the results they give our patients.

Allergan is the company that makes Juvederm products and is the same company that makes Botox, Kybella, and Coolsculpting. Since coming into the US market back in 2006, the Juvederm family has established itself as the #1 dermal filler brand in the US.    All the products are made with hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a naturally occurring substance in your body.  Furthermore, the safety profile of HA fillers, like Juvederm, makes it an ideal choice for use in a wide range of patients.  Many patients (and medical providers) like the fact that HA dermal fillers can be dissolved if needed or if the patient desires to return to baseline.

Juvederm Fun Fact:

If you have ever wondered what the “XC” was in these products, then you are not alone.  The XC simply means that these products have powdered lidocaine in them to help with the patient’s comfort level

Juvederm Volux XC

Juvederm Volux is the latest dermal filler product from the Juvederm line. It is made of hyaluronic acid and is specifically designed for use in the chin and jaw area. It is used to add volume and definition to the chin and jawline and can also be used to correct asymmetry in the jaw and chin. Volux is a thicker hyaluronic acid gel that is designed to provide a more structured lift; it is typically used to treat more severe or advanced cases of volume loss in the chin and jawline.

Voluma

Voluma is a unique dermal with properties that make it ideal for mid-face rejuvenation.  This product was a game changer for the industry as it took medical providers from focusing on correcting the folds around the mouth to addressing some basic underlying problems with how the face ages in the cheeks.  As we age the fat pads, which gave us all nice and rosy cheeks when we were younger, start to lose their structure and fall which causes a myriad of issues on the lower face.  Voluma was the first product designed to go in the mid-face (cheek area) and restore the volume we lose in that area.   Voluma is FDA approved to last up to 2 years.

Vollure

Vollure is a unique dermal filler that can last up to 18 months in mild to moderate folds around the mouth.  Used in similar areas as Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, this product is FDA approved to last longer and help patients that do not have severe nasolabial folds around the mouth.  If you look at the picture to the right you will notice the patient does not have severe nasolabial folds.  This product is great in these types of applications as it will give the patient a beautiful result with a product that can last up to 18 months.

Vobella

Vobella is a unique dermal filler that can enhance areas around the lips.  A great analogy for Vobella is icing on a cake.  Some of the other fillers mentioned above are the cake.  Meaning they are the actual part of the structure that gives it the final shape.  However, every cake needs icing and that is what Vobella is in this analogy.  This soft, subtle product is great for subtle enhancements across the lips and small line/wrinkles around the mouth.  It really is the icing on the cake!

Juvederm Ultra XC

Juvederm Ultra XC is a unique dermal with properties that make it ideal for filling fine lines and wrinkles in and around the lips.  This product is tried and true and has been the longest Juvederm product on the market in the US.  If you notice the Before & After picture to the right the patient has had Juvederm Ultra XC injected into her lips.  The first thing you will notice is that the patient’s lips look fuller without being extremely noticeable.  Let’s be honest…nobody wants to look like a duck!  This subtle volume in the lip area is what makes Juvederm Ultra XC and ideal product for use around the lips and mouth.

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is designed to be more volumizing than its sister product Ultra XC.  The design of the product makes it ideal for an area of the face that needs more volume.  If you take a look at the Before & After picture, you will notice that the patient in the picture has noticeable nasolabial folds starting at the nose and extending to the corners of her mouth.  Plus, she has noticeable marionette lines which extend from the corners of her mouth down to her chin.  Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is wonderful in these types of areas that need more volume.
