Chemical Peels
Chemical peels have been done for more than
50 years. Dermasurgeons developed and refined the peeling process so
that there are now a range of techniques and solutions for various
conditions and levels of skin damage. Chemical peels can help treat
and improve a wide range of skin conditions, including skin
discoloration and age spots, wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, and
discolored and irregular skin. The chemical peel process involves
the application of a tailored chemical solution to the skin,
resulting in new skin generation. This fresh skin is typically more
even in color and smoother.
Chemical peels are done with various chemical
solutions and at varying strengths depending on your needs. The
down-time ranges from none at all for very light peels to 7-10 days
for more aggressive peels. Superficial peels are done by an
experienced nurse or esthetician in our office (but under Dr.
Sobera’s supervision). Deeper peels may be needed for more severe
photodamage, scarring or wrinkling. These are performed only by Dr.
Sobera and require a prior consultation.
The Active
FX laser resurfacing procedure is another option if you are
considering a more aggressive peel.
